I'm always fascinated about the artists rituals before they proceed with their works of art. Do they re-sharpen all their pencils, do they pour a glass of wine to a specific measurement while basking in the sounds of Mozart, 2chainz or Led Zepplin? I'm interested in knowing their thought proccess before initializing in such a creative path wether it be film or paint on canvas or design.
Over the next couple of weeks, I will be displaying "artist rituals" as a new column. This will enable access to not just what you see but how you see it. I always percieve art in a different manner when I understand the genuine concept and effort put into a piece. I feel like we are such a visually stimulated generation, that we often forget the meaning behind what we are looking at. We are often fasicnated with the asthetic of art but not the understanding of it.

I hope this allows you to percieve and approach art in a different light. I often thought it was stupid when I saw splattered paint canvases selling for thousands and millions of dollars, but when I went home to try and splatter paint on a canvas it's a lot harder than you think. It's about controling the way the paint drips on the canvas, the color in which your emotionally tied to in that moment, the atmosphere, the air, everything plays such a vital role in creating an art piece, when I see pieces that are very simple, I don't judge it for less than. Because as simplistic as it looks, it could have been the most daunting proccess for the artist.
