Art Flows In My Veins

Last week I had the amazing opportunity to work with Toronto based musician and photographer Patrick Perez and photographer and videographer Eric, The Chance. With a preview to their their most recent project, Gum Chewer, I was intrigued by their artistic overviews. I soon reached out and we came up with some interesting concepts to portray my obsession with art. The representation of the paint over flowing from my insides is to showcase the deep love I have for art. Art is in me, it consumes me. I think about art, I talk about art, I dream about art, I am art, we all are. As Banksy once said, "art should comfort the disturbed and disturb the comfortable."

Gum Chewer is about a consistent dream Patrick continously had of struggling to remove gum out of his mouth. "It grows from my tongue and the more I pull, the more my mouth fills. This dilemma causes me to feel alone, while no one around me sees my troubles."

He explains that this represents issues in his life. "I know I need to let go of certain thoughts but I constantly lie to myself to make myself feel as if I'm perfectly fine. Those people that ignore me in my dreams represent me being the bystander to my problems. It's been a struggle and a slow process writing original material this year but the tracks that I've completed are filled with experimentation, truthfulness, frustration and honesty. It's time to let go and move forward."

Patrick still has gum chewing dreams on a daily bases and wonders when they will end. He reminds himself to write his feelings, stay true to his emotions and make every single negative thought into a positive by turning his thoughts and emotions into art. Patrick Perez is the gum chewer.
