NE·ON

nēän/

noun

"The chemical element of atomic number 10, an inert gaseous element of the noble gas group. It is obtained by the distillation of liquid air and is used in fluorescent lamps and advertising signs."

Have you ever wonderd how neon colors are made? I never even second guessed their unicorn-like existance until I met artist Taryn Mooradian setting up her art work for her debut Number Storm at OOG, an interesting concept space/gallery by Cais on 88 Harbord St, Toronto, ON.

I noticed her art work and palette were covered in neons and pastels. After talking to her for a few minutes she taught me that neons were made from elements found on the periodic table. That's right, that sheet you got in 7th grade science class with all the caps letters, numbers and colors..... Unless you were interested in science back then this would'nt have blown your mind as much as it did mine. I was just as excited and interested as the times they played VHS Bill Nye the Science Guy in that 7th grade science class. I was intrigued, how could science be that cool?!

Number Storm was a huge success. Taryn's work has an undeniable passion for colors, lines and texture. Her art makes you dream of palm trees and 99 degrees. Check out the video below for Taryn M's Storm Box debut!
